Why make banana chips at home?

Most people think that banana chips are better for you than potato chips, and they’d be right! But the truth is even store-bought banana chips contain a ton of preservatives, added salt, and added sugar. This is down to one factor, shelf-life.

The fact is when they add all this salt, sugar, and chemicals, they can increase the shelf-life from 1 week to several months. Thus, giving them more time to sell them, at the expense of your health.

But when you make these delicious air fryer banana chips at home, you control the ingredients that go into them. Creating a great tasting snack without any of the guilt as you know they actually good for you. Plus, homemade chips have a freshness to them that you just can’t get from store-bought varieties.

They are also super simple and easy to make. You could make a great big batch over the weekend and store them in an airtight container. Now, you have tasty, healthy snacks for the whole week and for the whole family.

We also recommend a mandolin or slicer. This is not an absolute must, but it does make things a heck of a lot easier. Trying to get thin, consistent slices by hand with a knife is not only difficult but also time consuming. Check out our favorite mandolin slicer here.

  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).

  7. Using a mandolin, slice the banana thinly to turn them into chips.
  8. Toss the chips in the oil and seasoning mix until thoroughly and evenly covered.
  9. Place banana chips in a single layer in your basket make sure that they do not touch.
  10. Air fry for 10 minutes. They may take more or less time depending on the thickness of your slices so check them after 7 minutes. If they haven’t crisped up yet, then leave for a few more minutes. Depending on the size of your air fryer you may have to do multiple batches to cook all the chips.
